Here is something most Indian applicants never hear about NTU: your JEE Advanced rank counts. Nanyang Technological University states on its India admissions page that JEE Main "will not enhance one's chances" — but that "a good ranking in JEE-Advanced is valued." For a student who has spent two years preparing for the IITs, that makes NTU one of the rare top-fifteen global universities where that effort carries straight into the application. And with Singapore's MOE Tuition Grant, an NTU engineering degree costs an international student S$21,400 a year in 2026.

Founded as the Nanyang Technological Institute in 1981 and established as a full university in 1991, NTU is ranked 12th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2027. Its main campus covers around 200 hectares in Jurong West, the largest university campus in Singapore. For Indian students planning to study in Singapore, NTU pairs a global engineering and technology reputation with a long, forgiving application window — and this guide walks you through fees, the Tuition Grant bond, entry requirements and life after graduation.

What Can You Study at NTU?

  • College of Engineering — NTU's historic core, and the reason most Indian applicants look at it. Standard engineering programmes sit in the main fee band.
  • College of Computing and Data Science — computer science, computer engineering and data science degrees for students aiming at Singapore's technology sector.
  • Nanyang Business School — Business, Accountancy and a set of double degrees including Business & Computing and Business & Computer Engineering, all in their own fee band.
  • College of Science and College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences — sciences, mathematics, economics, psychology and communication studies among them.
  • Renaissance Engineering Programme — an integrated engineering-and-business programme with its own fee and an earlier results requirement (see below).
  • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) — NTU's medical school, originally established with Imperial College London, with its own fee schedule and admissions timeline.

Popular NTU choices for Indian students: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Business & Computing, and Accountancy at undergraduate level; engineering, computing and business master's at postgraduate level.

NTU Tuition Fees (2026 Intake)

These are NTU's published annual fees for students who accepted a programme offer in 2026. Indian students fall in the "Other International Students" column. International and non-subsidised fees include 9% GST.

Programme groupWith MOE Tuition Grant (S$/year)Without Tuition Grant (S$/year)

Your fee is locked in for the whole degree. NTU states that the "annual tuition fee is fixed at the 2026 rate for the duration of the degree programme" — so the rate in your offer year is the rate you pay until you graduate. For 2027 entry, NTU will publish a new schedule; budget slightly above the 2026 figures until it does. And notice how the Tuition Grant changes the arithmetic: on a laboratory-based engineering programme it saves S$19,200 a year, and on Business it saves S$23,800 a year — the largest gap in NTU's table.

Beyond tuition, plan for hall or private accommodation, food, transport, insurance, a laptop and flights home, plus the Student's Pass fees covered below. Build your budget line by line so your family knows the full picture before the offer arrives.

The MOE Tuition Grant — How It Works at NTU

What it is
A Singapore Ministry of Education subsidy covering "a substantial portion of the full tuition fees" for full-time undergraduates admitted on a subsidised basis. Singapore citizens receive it automatically; permanent residents and international students must indicate their interest during the application.
The bond
International recipients sign a Tuition Grant Agreement under which they are "contractually obliged to work in a Singapore entity for three (3) years upon graduation." MOE defines a Singapore entity broadly — a company incorporated in Singapore, a foreign company with a substantial connection to Singapore, government agencies, non-profits and educational institutions.
Registration and signing
Done online through MOE's TG&S Portal with two sureties aged 21 to 65. For the 2026 intake, NTU's page gave the online signing window as 19 September to 18 October 2026. Students who do not apply or do not complete registration and signing pay the non-subsidised fee.
Scholarships depend on it
NTU's scholarship FAQ states: "Your scholarship will only remain valid when you take up the MOE tuition grant." If you are hoping for an NTU scholarship, plan on taking the grant and its bond together.
After graduation
MOE tells international recipients to apply for a one-year Long-Term Visit Pass when the Student's Pass expires, to stay and find work; the employer then applies for the work pass. Deferment to work overseas first is possible with a Banker's Guarantee and a request at least six weeks before the overseas job begins.
Breaking the bond
Liquidated damages are the total grant received, plus any GST subsidy, plus 10% interest per year compounded at the end of each academic year.

Think of the bond as a career decision, not a fine print clause. For a student who wants to start a career in Singapore's engineering, technology or finance sectors, three years of full-time Singapore work is simply the plan — and the grant saves around S$19,000–S$24,000 a year on the way. For a student set on returning to India or moving on to the US straight after graduating, the non-subsidised route buys that freedom. Both are good choices when made deliberately. Admissions for Indian Students

India Standard 12 Requirements

  • Academic bar: NTU asks for at least 90% in all subjects including English, excluding other languages and technical subjects such as Home Science, Art and Fashion Design.
  • Subject requirements: each programme sets its own. Several business and social-science programmes need Mathematics at Standard 12 if Additional Mathematics does not appear on your Class 10 result slip, and STEM double majors need pure Mathematics.
  • Entrance tests: JEE Main is not required and will not enhance your chances; a good JEE Advanced rank is valued; the NTU entrance examination is not required.
  • English: if English was your medium of study, an English test will not enhance your chances. Otherwise NTU accepts IELTS (overall 6, Writing 6), TOEFL iBT 90 with Speaking 25 (or overall 4.5 and Speaking 4.5 on the new scale from January 2026), SAT 1250, PTE Academic 55, ACT with Writing 30 or C1 Advanced.
  • Documents: Standard 10 and 12 marksheets, any university transcript, and English test scores where applicable. Upload your Standard 12 results within 3 days of their official release through the Check Status link, or the application is treated as incomplete.
  • Actual results decide: NTU makes decisions with actual results only, and final results must be available by 31 July to be considered in that year's admission exercise — so your Class 12 marks are the heart of your application.

The timing detail that opens up Medicine and Renaissance Engineering. NTU states that applicants whose results are available after 1 April of the application year are not eligible for LKCMedicine or the Renaissance Engineering Programme in that admission exercise. Indian board results usually arrive after that date — so if either programme is your goal, the smart route is to apply in the following cycle with your final Class 12 results already in hand. Every other NTU programme remains open to you in your Class 12 year.

NTU admits undergraduates once a year. Its India Standard 12 window runs from October to March — noticeably longer than NUS's December-to-February window — which lets you apply to both Singapore universities in one cycle. Our NUS guide covers that side of the plan.

Postgraduate Study

NTU publishes postgraduate tuition fees programme by programme on its graduate admissions pages, and the undergraduate Tuition Grant described above does not apply to most coursework master's. Entry requirements for Indian bachelor's degrees — including three-year degrees — vary by programme, so confirm eligibility with your target programme before applying.

NTU Scholarships for Indian Students

NTU lists more than 100 undergraduate scholarships across merit-based, need-based and talent-based categories. Its scholarships finder lets you filter by nationality, programme and student type — set it to *International Student* and *Freshmen* to see the awards open to you in the current cycle. Remember the rule from NTU's own FAQ: a scholarship remains valid only when you take up the MOE Tuition Grant, and the award's coverage is stated in your offer letter.

Your Student's Pass (ICA)

  • Who issues it: the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). You apply online through ICA's SOLAR e-Service after NTU registers you.
  • When: at least two months and not more than three months before your course begins.
  • Fees: S$45 processing on application, S$60 on issuance and S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa where applicable — India is on Singapore's visa-required list.
  • Processing: within one week, or two weeks where a visa is required, per ICA. A medical examination report may be required.
  • Part-time work: under MOM's work pass exemption, full-time matriculated NTU students can work up to 16 hours a week during term, full-time during vacations, and on approved internships or industrial attachments.

After Graduation — Building a Career in Singapore

  • Long-Term Visit Pass: NTU graduates are on ICA's list of eligible institutions for the LTVP to seek employment — MOE describes it as a one-year pass. ICA charges S$45 on submission and S$60 on issuance (plus S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa if applicable), with processing within six weeks.
  • Employment Pass: the current minimum qualifying salary for new applications is S$5,600 a month (S$6,200 in financial services), increasing with age.
  • From 1 January 2027: the minimum rises to S$6,000 (S$6,600 in financial services) for new applications — the benchmark for NTU's 2027 and later graduates.
  • COMPASS: EP candidates must also reach 40 points on MOM's COMPASS framework, which weighs salary, qualifications, workforce diversity and the employer's support for local hiring.
  • Your bond, fulfilled: if you took the Tuition Grant, three years of full-time work with a Singapore employer on an Employment Pass is exactly how you meet it.

Applying to NTU from Bangalore and Karnataka

  • CBSE and ICSE/ISC schools in Bangalore: NTU's India Standard 12 page sets the 90% bar "in the Standard 12 Board exam" and names CBSE specifically — CBSE candidates sitting the exam upload their Admit Card with the application.
  • Karnataka II PUC (Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board): NTU's India page does not name state boards or say how II PUC marks are assessed. If you are a PUC student, email NTU's undergraduate admissions office before you apply to confirm how your board is treated and which subject combinations meet your programme's requirements — a short, early question that makes the rest of your application straightforward.
  • Your JEE Advanced rank: many Bangalore PUC and CBSE students prepare for JEE alongside their boards. At NTU a good JEE Advanced rank is valued, so that preparation works for you here too.
  • Degrees from Karnataka universities (for master's applicants): NTU does not publish a named list of Indian institutions, so whether your degree is from VTU, Bangalore University, a Bangalore engineering college or elsewhere, confirm eligibility with your target programme.
  • No visa appointment in Bangalore for the Student's Pass: you apply online through ICA's SOLAR e-Service, and ICA says the formalities — including biometrics — are completed after you arrive, by appointment at the ICA Services Centre in Singapore (or at an offsite session your university arranges). The pass is issued in digital form only.
  • Getting there: Singapore Airlines lists Bangalore (BLR) among the Indian cities it serves from its Singapore hub, so you can fly direct from Kempegowda International Airport to Changi. Check current schedules and fares when you book.
  • Local support: Falcon Nova's office is in Hebbal, North Bangalore, on the 7th floor of Kirloskar Business Park — you can book a free counselling session there in person or online.

Is NTU Right for You?

NTU is a superb fit if you want a top-fifteen global university with a real engineering and technology identity, at S$21,400 a year with the Tuition Grant and a fee fixed for your whole degree. It rewards the things Indian students already work hard for — strong board marks and a good JEE Advanced rank — and its October-to-March window gives you room to plan. If you picture your first working years in Singapore, the Tuition Grant bond turns into a head start rather than a commitment to worry about.

The strongest NTU applications come from students who choose their programme with its subject requirements in mind, decide on the Tuition Grant early, and time their application so programmes like Medicine or Renaissance Engineering stay within reach. Get those three right and the rest of the process is refreshingly clear.

Ready to Plan Your NTU Application?

NTU applications turn on a few precise decisions: which programme your Class 12 subjects qualify you for, how to present a JEE Advanced rank, whether the Tuition Grant and its three-year bond suit your career plan, and whether to wait a cycle to keep LKCMedicine or Renaissance Engineering open. Falcon Nova Consultants has helped hundreds of Indian students plan their study-abroad applications. Book a free counselling session at our Hebbal office in North Bangalore or online, and we will build your NTU shortlist, your Tuition Grant decision and your October-to-March timeline with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are NTU fees for Indian students?
For students accepting an offer in 2026, NTU lists annual tuition for non-ASEAN international students with the MOE Tuition Grant at S$21,400 for most programmes, and S$21,800 for Business, Accountancy and the related double degrees. Without the Tuition Grant, most programmes cost S$40,600 a year if laboratory-based or S$36,350 if not, and the Business and Accountancy group costs S$45,600. The Renaissance Engineering Programme is S$32,000 and Medicine (LKCMedicine) S$91,250 a year for non-ASEAN international students with the Tuition Grant; NTU lists no non-subsidised fee for either. International fees include 9% GST, and NTU states the annual fee "is fixed at the 2026 rate for the duration of the degree programme."
What is the NTU Tuition Grant bond?
The MOE Tuition Grant is a Singapore government subsidy, not an NTU scholarship. NTU explains that international recipients sign a Tuition Grant Agreement and are "contractually obliged to work in a Singapore entity for three (3) years upon graduation." You register and sign online through MOE's TG&S Portal with two sureties aged 21 to 65. If you break or buy out the bond, MOE sets liquidated damages at the total grant received plus any GST subsidy, plus 10% interest a year, compounded. If you do not apply for the grant, you pay the non-subsidised fee and carry no bond.
What percentage do I need in Class 12 for NTU?
NTU's India Standard 12 page asks for at least 90% in all subjects including English, excluding other languages and technical subjects such as Home Science, Art and Fashion Design. Individual programmes add their own subject requirements — Mathematics at Standard 12, for example, for several business and social-science programmes. The NTU application fee for international applicants is S$25.
Can I apply to NTU from Bangalore with Karnataka PUC marks?
NTU's India Standard 12 page sets its 90% requirement for the Standard 12 Board exam and names CBSE specifically, but it does not say how state boards such as II PUC from the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board are assessed. If you are a PUC student in Bangalore or anywhere in Karnataka, write to NTU's undergraduate admissions office to confirm before you apply — the India Standard 12 window runs from 15 October 2026 to 19 March 2027, so there is time to get a clear answer first. CBSE and ICSE/ISC students follow the requirements on NTU's India page directly.
What is the NTU acceptance rate for Indian students?
NTU does not publish an acceptance rate for Indian or international applicants on its admissions pages, so treat any figure quoted elsewhere as an estimate. What NTU does state clearly is how it decides: high school academic performance is the primary factor, decisions are made with actual results only (no provisional offers on preliminary results), and India Standard 12 applicants need at least 90% in all subjects including English. So the most useful targets are within your control — clear the 90% bar with room to spare, meet your programme's subject requirements, and add a strong JEE Advanced rank if you have one.
Does NTU accept JEE scores?
NTU states that JEE Main is not required and will not enhance your chances, but that a good ranking in JEE Advanced is valued. The NTU entrance examination is not required either. So if you have sat JEE Advanced and ranked well, include it — it is one of the few places abroad where that rank carries weight.
Do Indian students need IELTS for NTU?
Not if English was your medium of study — NTU says that taking an English test in that case will not enhance your chances. If English was not your medium of instruction, NTU accepts options including IELTS (overall 6, Writing 6), TOEFL iBT 90 with Speaking 25 (or the new-scale equivalents for tests from January 2026), SAT 1250, PTE Academic 55, ACT with Writing 30 and C1 Advanced.
Can I work in Singapore after NTU?
Yes. NTU is on ICA's list of institutions whose graduates can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass to seek employment — MOE describes it as a one-year LTVP for Tuition Grant recipients. Once you have a job, your employer applies for your work pass from the Ministry of Manpower, typically the Employment Pass. The current minimum qualifying salary is S$5,600 a month (S$6,200 in financial services) for younger applicants, rising to S$6,000 (S$6,600) for new applications from 1 January 2027, and candidates must also pass MOM's COMPASS points framework.
