How do you apply for an APS certificate from Karnataka?

An APS certificate application from Karnataka has six steps, and only one of them needs a courier. APS India's leaflet for bachelor's and master's graduates, valid as of June 2026, sets the order:

  1. 1

Register online at aps-india.de. Choose the correct procedure, fill in the form, then print and sign it. Mistakes in the form can make your application invalid.

  2. 2

Pay the ₹18,000 fee. Pay online through CCAvenue during registration, or by bank transfer. APS India says paying by manual wire transfer slows the process.

  3. 3

Take the dMAT if it applies to you. Some master's applicants need a dMAT certificate as well (see below). You can send your APS documents before it arrives, but APS India only issues your certificate once it has the dMAT result.

  4. 4

Courier your documents to APS India in New Delhi. Include the signed form and keep your courier tracking details.

  5. 5

Wait for verification. APS checks your documents and may contact your college or university.

  6. 6

Get your digital certificate. Your online profile shows the result, and successful applicants get a digital APS certificate by email.

What documents does APS India need?

APS India lists 13 items for applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree, all as copies. The table shows what each item means for a student from Karnataka.

Students applying with only Class XII results, such as for a bachelor's in Germany, follow a different checklist. Find yours on APS India's checklists page.

Do you need attested or notarised copies for APS?

APS India does not ask for attested copies of English documents. Its leaflet says documents already in English need not be notarised, and its FAQs ask for clear A4 colour photocopies. Do not send original documents.

Any document that is not in English needs a notarised English translation attached. Check each Karnataka document before you courier it. If a marks card or certificate is in Kannada only, get a notarised translation first.

How long does the APS certificate take?

The APS certificate takes at least two weeks after APS India receives your payment and complete documents, according to APS India. It can take longer when many students apply, or when schools and universities are slow to answer APS queries. APS India does not give a fixed time for each case.

  • Tell your college: APS India asks you to let your school, college and university know they may get a query. They must reply from an official email address; Gmail and similar addresses are not accepted.
  • Pay online: A manual bank wire lengthens verification, so use CCAvenue if you can.
  • Send everything together: APS India only processes complete applications and can't keep files open while you wait for results or more marksheets.

What is the dMAT and does it apply to you?

The dMAT (Digital Master Test) is a new test some master's applicants from India must take before APS verification. APS India says it applies to applications for the summer semester 2027 intake and later, for selected fields of study that APS India will publish on its website. Bachelor's and PhD applicants are not affected.

  • Fee: €150, paid to g.a.s.t., the organisation that runs the test.
  • Where: At licensed test centres in India, including Bangalore. g.a.s.t. books seats on a first come, first served basis.
  • Sending it later: If your dMAT certificate is not ready yet, you can send your other APS documents first and submit the dMAT certificate when it arrives. Every academic document must still go in your first courier.
  • Exemptions: You don't need it if you registered for APS online before 29 June 2026, or shipped your complete documents before that date. You are also exempt if you already hold an APS certificate, or are on an officially confirmed exchange, double-degree or university partnership programme.
  • TestAS: APS India says TestAS is currently not a mandatory part of APS verification in India.

What Karnataka students should know before applying for APS

Karnataka students can prepare almost the whole APS file in Bangalore before the courier leaves. These points save time:

  • Collect every semester's marks card: Get all your VTU or Bangalore University semester marks cards in hand before you register, along with your SSLC and II PUC marks cards.
  • Get your provisional certificate: If your degree certificate has not been issued yet, ask your college for a provisional certificate. It must be no more than one year old.
  • Brief your exam section: Tell your college's principal or exam section that APS India may email them, and ask them to reply from the official college email.
  • No walk-in office: APS India has no public office hours and does not accept personal drop-offs. Use a tracked courier from Bangalore, and ask questions through its contact form.
  • Book your language test early: APS asks for a language certificate. Our guides to the Goethe-Institut in Bangalore and German classes in Bangalore help you plan.
  • Talk to us in Hebbal: Falcon Nova's office in Kirloskar Business Park, Hebbal, offers free counselling in person or online. See our Bangalore office page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the APS certificate fee refundable?
No. The ₹18,000 APS fee is not refundable once paid, whatever the result of the verification. APS India states this on its application page and in its leaflets. Because of this, check that you have chosen the right procedure and have every document ready before you pay. Use the CCAvenue online payment during registration, as a manual wire transfer slows verification.
Who does not need an APS certificate for Germany?
You may not need APS if your relevant degree was not issued by an Indian institution. APS India's FAQs list other cases too. These include PhD and postdoc applicants whose German institution does not require APS, and some holders of German or EU public scholarships. Students whose highest qualification is an international school certificate, such as the IB, may also be exempt. If you are exempt, the German consulate asks you to upload an anabin printout or a ZAB Statement of Comparability with your visa application instead.
Can I apply for APS before my final semester results?
Wait until all your results are out. APS India says it cannot keep applications open while applicants wait for future exam results or more semester marksheets, and it asks you to send all documents together. Once you have your final marks, you can use a provisional certificate from your college if the degree certificate isn't ready, as long as it is no more than one year old.
Is TestAS required for the APS certificate?
No. APS India says TestAS is currently not a mandatory part of the APS procedure in India. The new requirement to watch is the dMAT, a test for selected master's applicants from the summer semester 2027 intake. It costs €150 and is held at licensed centres, including one in Bangalore. APS India will publish the list of affected fields on its website.
How will I receive my APS certificate?
You receive a digital APS certificate by email, and your online APS profile shows the result. APS India asks you to keep the original PDF file safe. When you apply for your visa, upload it as the original standalone PDF rather than a scan or printout. The certificate confirms your documents were verified; on its own it does not decide your admission or your visa.
Who can help me with my APS certificate application in Bangalore?
You can apply yourself using APS India's website, which has the checklists, fee details and FAQs. If you want help, look for someone who checks your documents against the official checklist, explains the dMAT rules, and doesn't promise a timeline APS controls. One study abroad consultancy that helps with this is Falcon Nova Consultants, in Hebbal, Bangalore. Falcon Nova offers free counselling and document checks for your APS file, plus support with your German university and visa applications.
