What German courses does the Goethe-Institut Bangalore offer?
The Goethe-Institut Bangalore offers three classroom formats, and each one moves you up one level. A "teaching unit" here is a 45-minute lesson. B2, C1 and C2 are each split into two course parts, so those levels take two courses each.
| Format | Length | Teaching per week | Levels | Fee | Start months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intensive weekday | 11–12 weeks | 15 units (5 days × 3) | A1 to C2 | INR 28,500 | January, April, July, September |
| Intensive weekend | 14–15 weeks | 11–12 units (2 days × 5) | A1 to C2 | INR 30,500 | January, May, August |
| Super intensive weekday | 6–7 weeks | 25 units (5 days × 5) | A1, A2, B1 | INR 28,500 | January, March, May, June, August, October |
Classes have up to 24 participants, and the fee includes access to the learning platform for the length of the course. The courses page also lists online group and one-to-one courses, a self-paced German Training Online option, and B2 exam preparation courses listed at Rs. 3,000 per module.
How do you register for a course at Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore?
- 1
Check whether you need a placement test. Beginners joining A1 do not need one. If you learnt German elsewhere and want a higher level, you take the offline level test: 70 multiple-choice questions in 70 minutes. If you passed a Goethe-Institut exam in the last six months, you can skip it.
- 2
Book the level test if needed. The test runs Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, by appointment through the language office. Results stay valid for three months.
- 3
Book your course on the Goethe Webshop. All course registration is online. The enrolment page has a step-by-step PDF and video.
- 4
Pay by card. The institute accepts Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards.

How do you register for a Goethe exam and get your results?
- Book online only. The Goethe-Institut warns against fake offers of exam seats or certificates. Book only on the official exam page for your level.
- Bring your passport. Since 1 September 2025, a valid original passport is the only ID accepted for exams from A1 to C2.
- Choose paper or computer. Some exams are offered digitally on a laptop at the institute. The date list shows which format each session uses.
- Ask how results reach you. The exams team can tell you when results come out and how you receive your certificate.
- TestDaF for university. The Bangalore exam page also lists TestDaF, a university-entry test with levels TDN 3 to 5, which match B2 to C1. Ask the exams team for the next date.

Tips for students in Bangalore and Karnataka
- Take the Metro to Indiranagar. The institute is on CMH Road, close to Indiranagar Metro station.
- Studying outside Bangalore? Students in other parts of Karnataka can take the institute's live online courses and travel to Bangalore only for the exam.
- Check holidays before you visit. The language office closes for Karnataka festivals such as Ayudha Pooja and Kannada Rajyotsava.
- Line up your other documents. Indian applicants to German universities usually need an APS certificate as well as language proof, so start both early.
- Get help in North Bangalore. Our office in Hebbal helps you plan language exams, APS and your German student visa as one timeline.
Which German level do you need?
The German level you need depends on your course and visa. Some English-taught programmes ask for no German at all, while German-taught degrees ask for advanced German. Our guide to German classes in Bangalore explains each level and the ways to reach it. You can also see what universities such as TUM ask for.
