How do you apply for a UK Student visa from Bangalore?

A UK Student visa from Bangalore takes five steps: get your CAS, take a TB test, apply online on GOV.UK, give biometrics at VFS UK in Bangalore, and wait for UKVI's decision. UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) is the Home Office department that decides visas. You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts.

From offer letter to eVisa

  1. 1

Get your CAS. Your university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), a reference number that proves your place. You need it for the form.

  2. 2

Take a TB test. India is on the UK's list of countries where a tuberculosis test is needed for stays of 6 months or more. Use a UKVI-approved clinic. Our TB test guide explains the Bangalore options.

  3. 3

Apply online on GOV.UK. Pay the £558 fee and the health surcharge in the same application.

  4. 4

Book and attend VFS UK in Bangalore. Give your fingerprints and photo, and upload or hand over your documents.

  5. 5

Wait for the decision. UKVI usually decides within 3 weeks. If you are approved, you get an eVisa, an online record of your status, which you link to your passport through a UKVI account.

How much is the UK student visa fee from India?

The UK Student visa fee is £558 when you apply from India, according to GOV.UK. You also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, a charge for using the UK's National Health Service (NHS), and you must show money for your fees and living costs.

What documents do you need for a UK Student visa?

A UK Student visa needs a valid passport and your CAS in every case. Depending on your situation, UKVI may also ask for the documents below.

  • Financial evidence that shows the money for your course fees and living costs.
  • TB test certificate. It is valid for 6 months from the date of your chest x-ray.
  • ATAS certificate, if your master's or PhD course and nationality need one. ATAS is the UK's Academic Technology Approval Scheme for sensitive subjects.
  • Written consent from your financial sponsor, if a sponsor paid your fees or living costs in the last 12 months.
  • Parental consent, if you are 16 or 17.

Your next step is to confirm your CAS date and book your TB test, because both set your timeline. Then build your bank statements around the 28-day rule. Read more about studying in the UK, or see how one university handles admissions in our University of Manchester guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submit my UK visa documents at the British Deputy High Commission in Bangalore?
No. The British Deputy High Commission in Bangalore does not list visa services. You apply online on GOV.UK and give your biometrics at VFS Global's UK centre in J. P. Nagar. You can upload your documents online before the appointment, or bring copies and pay for VFS's upload help.
How long does a UK student visa take from Bangalore?
UKVI usually decides a Student visa within 3 weeks when you apply from outside the UK, once you have given your biometrics. You may be able to pay for Priority (£500, usually 5 working days) or Super Priority (£1,000, usually by the end of the next working day). You see whether these are offered when you apply. Apply early, because you can start up to 6 months before your course.
Do I need a TB test for a UK student visa from India?
Yes, if you are coming to the UK for 6 months or more. India is on the UK's list of countries where a TB test is needed. You must use a clinic approved by UKVI, and the certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of your chest x-ray. Read our TB test guide for the Bangalore clinics.
How much bank balance do I need for a UK student visa?
You need your first year of course fees, as shown on your CAS, plus living money. Living money is £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months. The money must stay in the account for 28 days in a row, ending within 31 days of your application.
Is the UK visa fee refundable if I change my plans?
Usually only if you cancel before you give your fingerprints and photo at VFS. GOV.UK says the fee is refunded automatically in that case, to the card or account you paid with. Once you have given your biometrics, the fee is not usually refunded. The GOV.UK cancel-visa page explains the steps. Double-check your course dates before you pay, so you only apply once.
Who can help me with my UK student visa application in Bangalore?
You can apply yourself using GOV.UK, which publishes every rule, fee and document list for free. If you want help, look for someone who checks your file against UKVI's official guidance, explains the 28-day money rule and makes no promises about the decision.
